The view from the blue blue grass

You mind the tunnel. It's dark, dark. Dark wet brick, leads through to Niddrie. Bingham tunnel. Meet u at the tunnel 2 mins. Sound.

That's a dark forbidden tunnel. Its not you that wants to go down it, but it that wants you!

I used to buy street vallies (1 & 2's) near there. There was a stream. A park. Green in spring, but still windswept and much needed open space come winter in a scheme where they piled everyone up back in the 30s.. 50s...

All gone now. Those buildings.

That was before the people used Vallies. I'm not sure- I'm no expert (haha) - on the subject, but I think Diazepam (valium, Roche...etc) came about in the 70s.

Anyway, it's a beautiful burn(stream). Its natural. They've left it be. There's no arseholes out trying to take the nature from the nature with their wee claw picky things.. you know the ones that you see some wee guy pretending to pick shit up round asda with... Leave the woodland be! It prefers to maintain itself...

Magdalene burn is pure Scottish urban nature. The reeds grow high. The blossom glides in the breeze. Dandelions and old 1970s tarmac from which they sprout. Railings held by generations of folk, me being one, ascend stairs from where the water churns and trickles up towards the tall brown maisonettes. Tall green shoots sway, dancing all around.

By winter, the view from the valley top, orange, purple. The horizon dwarfs the small valley down to the burn. Its a pretty sight to me.

Mist, fog- dense enough to be visible, gathers down a few metres from the bottom where the temperature truly plummets..

Fuck, nobody, despite the Ice or their age, takes their time passing the burn at that time of year. Its sub zero down there, if I was to stop to listen to that stream run.. maybe I wouldn't make it back...

Being a bit dramatic there, obviously, except if I was on valium. You could nod out on the 37 like my mate did and end up in penicuik... Twice! (3 or so hours on a noisy bus he managed that on)

I woke in hospital once. If passerbys hadn't found me I'd have slept forever in that spot.

People call us zombies. There's a similarity no doubt- except you'd be surprised to find we're more scared of you..

This post doesn't really have much of a great revelation... A great talking point...

Hopefully one day I'll just walk down that same burn, in future years from now, from a house that's not the shithole I have now. I've not much doubt in my mind that'll happen. It will in fact.

I just wish there were a lot more young guys from who realised you didn't need the blues to see how green and warm it was before it was too late...
